Balata Camp Art InstallationThe Balata Camp Art installation toured England, Wales, Sweden, Scotland and the US between March and July 2004. Composed of children's art, photographs, sound, poems, posters created and collected by the people of the camp, the installation aimed to express the humanity, oppression and ongoing resistance of the residents of Balata Refugee Camp. Refusing to present the Palestinians of Balata as 'others' in need of pity and charity, the content opened channels of communication and joint struggle between the artists and the audience. We have much to learn from one another in the fight against injustice, racism and oppression. The installation has led to a series of community projects supporting civil resistance in Balata, balatacamp.net one amongst them. Due to widespread demand, most of the exhibition has been archived online here. |
